What started as regular visits to families and various functions within Nandi County has quickly transformed into what observers have termed as political chess being orchestrated by none other than Lawyer Allan Kibet Kosgey.

Little was known about this new entrant into the political space before the 2017 general elections. During this period, Mr. Kosgey was attempting to clinch the Kesses Parliamentary seat and was squaring it out with Hon. Mishra for the Jubilee party ticket. He was unsuccessful and took a back seat. Well, he later shifted his political base from Uasin Gishu County to Nandi where his father, veteran Politician Dr. Henry Kosgey hails from.

As a new entrant, he started his political machinations by deeply affirming his presence at the grassroots where he always attends ceremonies, harambes, burials and even organize sporting activities for the youth.

With this technique, the politician was able to endear himself to the masses. It was not and has not been yet established what his intentions are, but pundits and his close associates are implying that he might be headed for the Nandi gubernatorial seat.

WHO IS ALLAN?

Allan Kosgey 46, is the son to former Industrialization Minister Henry Kosgey. He is married with three sons, a lawyer by profession and runs a successful law firm in Nairobi. He was in the team that represented Henry Kosgey at the International Criminal Court (ICC) when he was indicted by the court on charges related to the 2007/2008 post election violence that rocked Kenya. Kosgey's charges were later dropped.

PHILANTHROPIST

Since he shifted his political base, the young lawyer has been seeing to it that various individuals and groups are touched by his helping hand. This has served to further endear him to the electorate.

Recently, Allan Kosgey has taken a bolder approach to matters affecting Nandi County. He has on various occasions advised the current governor Stephen Sang to deliver on the promises he made to the people.

During the burial ceremony of a prominent businessman Benjamin Tai, which happened yesterday at Tinderet Constituency, Kosgey informed Sang that things were not going well in the county. He questioned why most development programs in the county had stalled years into the term. He stated that even though things were not going well, soon they would get better.

This was a bold move coming from the lawyer clearly indicating that he does not intend to lie low in the next coming days ahead of the upcoming general elections. He promised the residents that he would find time to come back and discuss development issues as he couldn't talk at the burial ceremony.

STEPHEN SANG

The incumbent governor Stephen Sang has in the recent past found himself on the receiving end over political issues in the county. The governor has been accused of mismanagement of county resources and that he has failed to deliver on his election pledges.

Sang ascended to the top county seat riding on the youth wave that had swept the county during the 2017 general elections. He floored other contestants based on his youthful age and progressive manifesto. Years into the seat, the governor has been accused of failing to initiate programs aimed at bettering the lives of the youth.

He is expected to defend his seat in 2022 and would have to prove to the electorate on why he needs to be re-elected.

It will be quite an interesting year for political observers and the electorate as they get into a political year.
