According to eyewitnesses, a Kenya Medical Supplies Authority KEMSA lorry arrived at Chepkumia Dispensary at around 11:30 in the morning during ongoing facility health management committee elections. While the delivery was part of a routine quarterly distribution of drugs and non pharmaceutical supplies across Nandi County, some residents quickly expressed suspicion.

Several individuals alleged that the consignment included expired drugs, while others claimed that some boxes appeared empty. These concerns led to heightened tension at the facility, with residents demanding immediate verification of the supplies.
Health officials and KEMSA personnel responded by opening the boxes in the presence of community members to ensure full transparency.

Upon inspection, it was established that the boxes in question did not contain expired drugs. Instead, they held non perishable items, specifically pillows, which had been packaged in cartons labeled with earlier expiry dates.

Officials clarified that the labels referred to packaging timelines and did not indicate that the contents were unsafe or expired. Further checks confirmed that the delivery matched the original order placed by the dispensary, with all items accounted for.

Local health authorities and administrators who were present during the inspection confirmed that the supplies delivered were accurate and appropriate. They reassured residents that proper procedures were followed in the ordering, delivery, and verification process.

The Nandi County Department of Health acknowledged the concerns raised by residents, noting that public vigilance plays a critical role in ensuring accountability in healthcare service delivery. Officials emphasized that systems are in place to track medical supplies from procurement to final delivery at health facilities.

Residents have been encouraged to continue participating in oversight processes, including witnessing deliveries and verifying documentation. This level of community involvement is seen as key to maintaining trust and transparency in the healthcare system.

The situation at Chepkumia Dispensary has since been resolved, but the incident highlights the importance of clear communication and public engagement in addressing concerns related to KEMSA drug delivery in Nandi County.
