The bursary programme, implemented through the Department of Education and Vocational Training, will benefit learners in secondary schools, including students with special needs, ensuring that deserving learners are able to continue with their education despite financial challenges.

Speaking during the bursary issuance exercise, Governor Stephen Sang reaffirmed his administration's commitment to making education accessible to every deserving child in Nandi County.

"Today, we issued bursaries to students across Nandi County as we continue fulfilling our commitment to making education accessible to every deserving learner," the governor said.

He noted that the bursary fund is intended to support vulnerable and needy students while reducing the financial strain faced by many households.

Governor Sang also announced that the county government has allocated KSh 120 million in the 2026/2027 financial year's budget to expand the bursary programme and increase the number of beneficiaries.

The increased allocation, he said, demonstrates the county's continued investment in education as a key driver of social and economic development.

"As we continue prioritizing education, we have set aside KSh 120 million in the coming financial year's budget to expand the bursary programme and reach even more deserving students," he said.

The governor emphasized that the county remains committed to promoting inclusive and quality education, adding that every child deserves an equal opportunity to succeed regardless of their financial background.

The bursary programme forms part of the county government's broader efforts to improve education outcomes by supporting learners from disadvantaged families and ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder access to education.
