With Sang's mandate coming to an end in 2027 after serving his two terms mandated by the constitution, political players are already aligning themselves in readiness for his succession.
Nandi County’s woman representative Cynthia J. Muge's name has appeared in some discussions as one of the possible successor to the outgoing governor.

This is interesting since Cynthia is still a new face in the Nandi political sphere. She first made headlines in 2017 when she joined the Nandi County assembly as an independent candidate for the vast Kilibwoni ward. She had then been elected as the youngest MCA in the country at the tender age of 24.
Her articulation of issues in the assembly earned her a place in the Nandi people's hearts and when she declared that she would be running for the woman representative seat in 2022, she easily sailed through.
Now at thirty, the young legislators star seems to be shining even brighter.
Recently, a group of MCAs from Nandi threw their weight behind the woman representative. The MCAs stated that since Sang's term was coming to an end, they wanted to be on record supporting Cynthia as the possible successor.
The MCAs were speaking in Kapsabet during the distribution of Ksh. 7.5M affirmative action funds to various groups drawn from the six sub-counties of Nandi.
Now that our governor Stephen Sang will not be seeking re-election in 2027, our woman representative is the ideal person to replace him.
The MCas included; Isaac Mosbei, Sarah mutwol, Truphosa Kuto, Lucy Tororei among others.
Cynthia has been lauded for prudent use of the affirmative action funds.
In January, she announced over 200 scholarship for students through the funds. The students were selected after a rigorous selection process she posted on her facebook account.
After a rigorous application and vetting exercise, I'm pleased to annouce a total of 205 students from across Nandi County will now have their four year secondary school fees fully paid courtesy of NGAAF
From the data she shared, 35 pupils were total orphans, 47 were partial orphans, 61 were raised by single parents, 13 abled differently and 49 came from vulnerable families.
This being the first time such a scholarship was provided from the office drew admiration from her supporters.
The Woman representative has been vocal in fighting for issues affecting the community ever since her time in the county assembly. She is vocal, eloquent and offers sober insights on matters affecting her constituents.
Stiff competition
Her candidature will definitely raise eyebrows considering that there are other leaders eyeing the governor’s seat. Top on the list include Senator Samson Cherargei, current MP Tinderet Hon. Julius Melly who is also a senior legislator, Lawyer Allan Kosgei and others who have not yet made their stand known.
It is also not clear whether Nandi residents are ready to embrace Cynthia as a possible successor of governor Sang in 2027.
