Nandi governor Stephen Sang is once again on the spot over county spending. In a new twist, it has emerged that the administration coughed close to a million shillings on lunches at a Kapsabet Hotel.
In a series of WhatsApp screenshots shared from a group identified as 'ONLINE 029 BATTALION' to various county platforms, the governor is seen urging one of his staff members to desist from being petty after he raised concerns over the huge bills.
"Nimeona Allen's Hotel invoice ya 960,000/= nikasindwa kwani Hezz alikula nyama ilitoka China." posted Hezz who is the whistleblower in the whole saga. (I have seen Allen's Hotel invoicing a bill of Ksh. 960,000/=, can't help but wonder if Hezz ate meat imported from China).

This matter did not go well with the governor who questioned the source of the employee's data.
"You cant be too simplistic in that manner. Let's not be malicious for nothing. You can be sure that procurement operate within reasonable limits. These kind of toothpic combing through our payment never happens anywhere else. I really wish you knew what happens elsewhere. Let's not always shoot ourselves just because we are not happy with an issue." Sang replied.
One member of the WhatsApp group asked Hezz to find a hotel in Kapsabet and pay 3000/= per Ugali plate for him to get paid and stop his complaints to which Hezz stated that he wouldn't do such a thing.
"How do you expect Hezz to explain those monies? I won't ever sign suchlike." Hezz stated.
One member also cautioned the adversity with which such accusations would be met with if it were to leak outside the group.
"This is dangerous for our team if it flies out." He stated.
Some of the members were lamenting over the unfair treatment of some of the members, an issue which caught the governor's attention.
"Noted the concerns raised on this. Let's have these internal matters discussed more internally. Even inboxing me is okay." Sang posted.
Hezekiah Kiprotich (Hezz) suspended
The county employee identified as Hezz, real name Hezekiah Kiprotich was served with a show cause letter by the county government. In a letter signed by Mr. Felix Sambu, who is the Chief Officer, Economic Planning in the County, the employee is given fourteen days to react to the later dated September 14th 2021.
"It has come to our attention that you have disclosed certain confidential information of the County Government of Nandi on social media contrary to Public Officer Ethics Act No. 4 of 2003." read part of the letter addressed to Hezz.
CEMENT SCANDAL
The new revelations have brought back memories of the scandal that rocked Sang's administration over the exaggerated prices of bags of cement. Speculations had it that the administration bought a bag of cement at Ksh. 9100/= per bag an allegation that was refuted by the governor who stated that the county spent Ksh. 910/= per bag and not the Ksh. 9100/= that was being alleged.

The county is yet to issue an official position over the new developments. However, some of Sang's administration defenders have come out to refute the accusation terming it as political witch hunt. They have stated that the screenshots from the WhatsApp group cannot be admissible anywhere therefore should not be trusted.
