The county government of Nandi has revoked the appointment of casual employees that are majorly deployed to the health ministry as support staff and sanitary cleaners.
Through a notice on one of the local dailies, the Nandi County Public Service board revoked their appointments.
"Having carried out extensive investigations on the recruitment process of the support staff and sanitary cleaners, as was advertised in the newspapers on 11th Oct 2018, it has come to the attention of the board that the recruitment process did not conform to the law." Read part of the statement.
"Therefore, in accordance with the provision of section 75 of the County Governments Act (2012) the board wishes to notify the concerned and the general public that the appointment made thereof stand revoked."
WAGEBILL CONCERNS
The county has a recurrent expenditure of around 52% of the total budget, a workforce of about 5100 employees. 1652 employees are employed on a permanent basis while 3455 are on contractual terms.
Since governor Stephen Sang took office in 2017, about 210 employees have been employed on permanent terms while 2,266 are on contract. The county spends a total of Ksh. 310 Million per month on wages, this is according to reports tabled at the county assembly.
The revocation of the appointment of the said employees is expected to have some political impact on the governor's office.
Youth Service Recruitment.
At the same time, the Nandi County government through the youth ministry has advertised for 600 vacant position into the Nandi County Youth Service.
