We will not field a candidate in Msambweni— Raphael Tuju

The ruling Jubilee Party will not field a candidate in the forthcoming by-election in Msambweni constituency.

This is according to a statement written by the party's Secretary General Raphael Tuju on 23rd September 2020.

"Following consultations within the party, it has been decided that the Jubilee party will not be fielding a candidate in the forthcoming Msambweni parliamentary by-election. We have received enquiries from some potentially strong aspirants who would have wished to contest the seat left vacant following the death of ODM legislator the late Hon. Suleiman Ramadhani Dori," reads part of the statement.

Tuju said even though participating in the by-election would be an important way of revitalizing the party at the grassroot level, the decision not to contest was informed by the recent advisory by the Chief Justice David Maraga calling for the dissolution of parliament over the failure to enact the two thirds gender rule.

He went ahead to say that the country is currently facing serious constitutional matters to deal with that requires sobriety and reaching across the political divide in order to navigate the country across some of these challenges.

Bearing in mind the recent corporation between the ODM party and Jubilee in matters parliament and the fact that the late Dori was an ODM MP, Mr Tuju says its imperative that they don't field a candidate in the interest of the bigger picture.

Aspirants who were eyeing the seat on a Jubilee ticket have been asked to seek other pathways to running for the seat.
