A couple in Uasin Gishu county have been charged with killing their three-year-old disabled daughter and secretly burying the remains in Singalo forest.
Charity Cheruto, 21, and Timothy Lihanya, 28, who are casual labourers at a local market were charged with murder in an Eldoret court on Monday.
According to The Nation, the two lovebirds said they killed the child in order to save their love.
Olunguse chief Samuel Bitok said he became suspicious after getting report of the missing girl and on asking the parents, they started behaving strangely.
They said they had taken the child to a relative but the story did not sound believable to Mr Bitok who insisted on being told the truth. That is when the woman admitted that they had killed the child and buried her remains in the forest.
The chief then ordered them to take him to the exact place where the remains had been buried where afterwards the two were arrested and taken to Kondoo police station.
Police said the couple killed the child on September 20 and took the body to the forest for burial at 8PM.
A neighbour who spoke to journalists said the couple usually locked the child in the house whenever they left for work.
Chief Bitok said the woman claimed Mr Lihanya made her commit the crime terming the child "a nuisance".
