Former Kibra MP aspirant Eliud Owalo has officially left Musalia Mudavadi-led Amani National Congress Party (ANC), a day after the Secretary General Barrack Muluka resigned.
In a letter to the registrar of political parties, Owalo who joined the party in 2019 from ODM said he had quit to enable the ANC strategically position itself effectively in the operational environment and craft a suitable road map moving forward.
”I also want to create a reasonable leg-room between myself and Mudavadi to safeguard and sustain our personal friendship, respect and positive professional engagements that has been in existence over a span of 25 years,” wrote Owalo.
This comes at a time the party was deliberating on replacing Muluka, with Owalo being fronted as the best suited candidate.
“I’ve done the little I can within my means as an ordinary member of the Party both in efforts to enhance the support base of the Party as well as strategically positioning Musalia Mudavadi in 2022 as a viable and feasible venture. Informed by the dictates of professionalism, I let the same to lie strictly within the knowledge confines of Hon. Mudavadi and myself,” he added.
In his letter, Muluka who resigned as both a party member and a Secretary General, said that he had accomplished his tasks and had nothing more to offer.
He also said that Mudavadi needed space to make critical decisions towards 2022, and also for restructuring of the party.
Just like Muluka, Owalo is an ex-employee of ODM leader Raila Odinga, having worked with the former premier as a campaign manager in 2013.
He shifted his allegiance in August 2019 to ANC, after failing to clinch the ticket to contest for the Kibra Constituency seat which was left vacant following the death of Ken Okoth who was the then MP.
He lost the race to Ken Okoth’s brother, Imran Okoth, who was running on an ODM ticket.
