Allan Kosgey Mobilizes Nandi Residents Ahead of IEBC Voter Registration Deadline

Kosgey, a lawyer by profession, has already declared his interest in the 2027 gubernatorial race, where he is expected to succeed outgoing Governor Stephen Sang, who will be completing his term.
IEBC Registration Exercise Nears Deadline
The IEBC launched the nationwide mass voter registration drive on 30th March 2026, with the exercise set to conclude on 28th April 2026. The initiative targets new voters who have recently acquired national identity cards, as well as those seeking to transfer their polling stations.
According to the electoral body, the exercise has so far achieved approximately 75% of its initial target, registering about 1.8 million new voters. The IEBC had initially projected 2.5 million new registrations in the first phase, with a broader goal of enlisting up to 6.3 million voters ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Concerns Over Low Voter Turnout
Despite the ongoing exercise, concerns have emerged among political leaders and analysts over the low turnout of new voter registrations. In many centers across the country, IEBC officials have reportedly been idle due to the limited number of applicants.
It is against this backdrop that Kosgey has stepped in to rally Nandi residents. Sources within his team indicate that the issue of low voter turnout featured prominently in recent strategy meetings.
“We were concerned about the low turnout. We decided to come up with a programme to mobilize residents to turn out in large numbers and ensure the county meets its voter registration targets,” a member of his team revealed.
The source further emphasized Nandi County’s political significance, noting:
“Being a county known as the political stronghold of William Ruto, we cannot afford to be associated with low voter turnout.”
2027 Gubernatorial Race Taking Shape
With the 2027 General Election drawing closer, the Nandi gubernatorial contest is already shaping up to be highly competitive. Several aspirants have expressed interest in the seat, setting the stage for a heated political showdown.

Kosgey appears determined to strengthen his bid, leveraging his consistent presence in community initiatives across the county. Despite narrowly losing in the 2022 party primaries, he has remained actively engaged in grassroots activities, including fundraising for medical bills, church development, and supporting education initiatives.
This will mark his second attempt at the gubernatorial seat, and political observers believe his sustained grassroots involvement could bolster his chances.
Among those expected to join the race are long-serving Tinderet MP Julius Melly and Nandi Woman Representative Cynthia Muge, setting up what is likely to be a closely contested battle.
