A video has surfaced showing Stephen Sang praising politician Allan Kosgey, a key contender in the race for the Nandi governor seat in the 2027 General Elections.

The video, recorded during a night vigil held in honour of the late businessman Wilson Kimisik Kurgat, captured Governor Sang commending Kosgey for his timely intervention in supporting Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres constructed by the county government.

Speaking during the vigil, Sang revealed that the area Member of County Assembly (MCA) had approached him seeking assistance to officially open and equip three newly built ECDE centres. However, before the county government could mobilize resources, Kosgey had already stepped in to ensure the classrooms were fully equipped.

When the area MCA approached me requesting that I open the ECDE centres, I asked him to give me time so that I could look for funds to equip the centres with desks and other materials. The MCA told me not to worry, as he had already spoken to Allan Kosgey, who had provided funds to equip the three classes. I was surprised, said Sang.

The governor’s public acknowledgment of Kosgey’s contribution has sparked fresh political interest, especially as the county begins to witness early alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

Kosgey, a lawyer by profession, is positioning himself as a serious contender for the county’s top seat. His upcoming bid will mark his second attempt at the governorship, having mounted a strong challenge against Sang in the 2022 elections. Although he lost that contest, Kosgey has remained politically active, maintaining a visible presence across Nandi County.

Since 2022, he has consistently engaged with residents at the grassroots level, attending community events, supporting local initiatives, and standing with families during both difficult and celebratory moments. This sustained engagement has helped him build and maintain political goodwill across various parts of the county.

Kosgey currently serves as the Chairperson of the Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI), a position to which he was appointed by President William Ruto. He had earlier been appointed as Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Office of the Attorney General before the courts declared the CAS positions unconstitutional.

Political insiders indicate that Kosgey has established a well structured and youth driven campaign network aimed at reaching every ward in Nandi County. His early preparations suggest a calculated strategy to build momentum well ahead of the election period.

The 2027 Nandi governor race is expected to attract stiff competition, with several prominent leaders already being mentioned as potential candidates. Among them are Tinderet MP Julius Melly and Nandi Woman Representative Cynthia Muge, alongside other seasoned politicians who have begun laying the groundwork for their campaigns.

Governor Sang, who is serving his second and final term, will not be eligible for re-election, setting the stage for what is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched political contests in Nandi County’s recent history.

As early endorsements, grassroots mobilization, and strategic alliances begin to emerge, Allan Kosgey’s growing visibility and now public praise from the sitting governor signals that the battle for the county’s top seat is already underway.
