The seat is currently held by first-term Member of Parliament Hon. Paul Kibichi Biego, popularly known as Polo, who is expected to defend his position amid growing political competition.
Rapid Rise to Fame
Senge Hellena rose to prominence shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, when he made the bold decision to quit his government job and pursue content creation on a full-time basis. His unique comedic style and relatable content quickly earned him a strong following, especially among the youth.
Born in 1999 in Nandi County, Hellena hails from Chesumei Constituency, the same constituency he now seeks to represent in Parliament.
Controversies and the Gen Z Protests
Hellena has not been a stranger to controversy. Between 2024 and 2025, he was actively involved in the anti-government demonstrations popularly known as the Gen Z protests, which swept across the country.
His involvement had professional consequences, with several of his scheduled comedy shows canceled. Notably, a planned performance at Eldoret Sports Club in Uasin Gishu County was called off after security agencies denied a permit, citing safety concerns.
Following the events, Hellena publicly sought forgiveness from his supporters and leaders, including a meeting with Kapseret MP Hon. Oscar Sudi, signaling a shift toward rebuilding his public image.
Why Senge Hellena Is Running
Hellena says his decision to enter politics is driven by his desire to champion youth empowerment and bring meaningful development to Chesumei Constituency.
He has promised to promote youth empowerment through practical programs and opportunities, improve road infrastructure across the constituency, strengthen healthcare services and
upgrade educational facilities and infrastructure.
Hellena emphasized that his leadership would focus on tangible results rather than empty promises.
Competitive Race Ahead
The Chesumei parliamentary race is expected to attract several aspirants, setting the stage for a highly competitive contest. Incumbent MP Paul Biego, who is serving his first term, will be seeking re-election as he faces emerging challengers, including the youthful and influential comedian.
Hellena’s entry into the race reflects a growing trend of young leaders and public figures transitioning from entertainment and social media into mainstream politics.
