Cherargei: Elections are costly, that's why I am suggesting a 7 year term limit

The bill which has raised a myriad of concerns from Kenyans including president Ruto who has come out to oppose the increased term limits continues to inform debates from various quarters.

Yesterday, the Senator through his social media page stated that the whole process is quite expensive and that there was no need to hold elections after give years.

"Kenyans, are you aware that in 2022 General elections 35.8 B this translates to Ksh 2000/= per voter was used with an outstanding pending bill of 2.05B by IEBC. This is the most expensive elections cost in the world." He posted.

The senator went further to suggest that the money allocated for the general elections be diverted to other development programs within counties.

''Imagine approximately 1B per county for the development expenditure or give to counties for equitable sharable revenue allocation,'' he further added.

Most Kenyans came out in large numbers during public participation for the draft bill to express their opposition towards the bill.

Senator Cherargei came out to clarify that the bill is a private member bill as provided for under the senate standing orders. He further stated that the bill has the support of many Kenyans and a cross section of leaders.
