With a few months to the next general elections, potential candidates have been quickly putting up teams to ensure that they conduct great campaigns to guarantee their election victory. Nandi county has not been left behind in the political canvasing that has been happening in the country. Top in the list is the scramble for the governor position that has put two lawyers at crossroads.
Lawyers Stephen Sang and Allan Kosgey are the top contenders for the gubernatorial position in Nandi. The two have in the recent past been at each other's throats over the position. Sang, who is the incumbent has in the past few days been on an onslaught launching some of his flagship projects while at the same time using the platform to attack Kosgey.

On his part, Kosgey has been making inroads at the grassroots through attending various functions in the county. Kosgey has also come out strongly by changing his approach towards politics. In the recent past, Kosgey has been highlighting the shortcomings of Sang's administration.
STEPHEN SANG
Sang was first elected as a Senator in 2013 in his first attempt at elective politics. A young ambitious politician, the then Senator quickly made a name for himself as a defender for the less privileged in the society promising to fight for the rights of the oppressed.
It is on this premise that he ran for the governor's position in 2017 flooring seasoned politicians in the county. He rose to become the youngest governor in the country, a position he earned through the trust bestowed by the younger generations in the county.

Sang made a series of promises especially to the youth who voted overwhelmingly for him. Top on his agenda was the creation of jobs for the youth, improved healthcare, better early childhood education among other issues.
Years into his term, Sang is trying to actualize his manifesto against a growing opposition from some of his strongest supporters. The governor has increasingly been isolated by fellow leaders in the county. Recently, he has been making his tours all by himself and has been attacking current sitting members of parliament accusing them of having been bought.
The area members of parliament have given his events a wide berth.
ALLAN KOSGEY
Allan has quickly made a name for himself in the Nandi political arena. In 2017, he unsuccessfully vied for the Kesses member of parliament seat. Despite this, he shifted his political base back to Nandi. Initially, it wasn't clear which seat he way eyeing. Some members of the public had suggested that he was eyeing the Nandi Hills MP seat, some had said that he was eyeing the Nandi Senatorial seat. However, it is now evident that he is going for Sang's seat.

Kosgey, 47, is a father and runs a successful law practice in Nairobi. He has made a name for himself by constantly engaging residents at the grassroots. What started as visits to families for harambees in aid of school fees and medical expenses quickly built him. As a philanthropist, he has lent a hand in most needy cases within Nandi.
Kosgey is looking to unseat the current governor. He has stated on various occasions that he is looking to ensure that Nandi embraces professionalism especially in the public service by ensuring that members of staff are well compensated and on time.
He has severally decried the wanton wastage of resources by the current administration. In a video that circulated on various social media handles within the county, the lawyer questioned why the county was constantly broke opting for "fuliza" each time causing delays in payment of salaries and pending bills to contractors.

Kosgey enjoys support from most of the local members of parliament including the current senator Samson Cherargei who is a strong critique of governor Sang.
Other candidates who have shown interest for the seat include; former governor Dr. Cleophas Lagat, Speaker Joshua Kiptoo, Antipas Tirop among others.
It is evident that the 2022 race will be a tough one for both sides. Sang is enjoying incumbency while Allan is enjoying the urge for change that is being experienced in the county.
