West Pokot: KANU expels four nominated MCAs over misconduct claims

Independent party KANU has cracked the whip on four female nominated Members of the West Pokot County Assembly over what it has termed as misconduct and failure to to adhere to party guidelines.

In a letter by the party Secretary General, Nick Salat, the party cited refusal to remit monthly membership fees, failure to adhere to the loyalty pledge, failure to defend and promote the party position as some of the reasons for the expulsion.

The four MCAs Grace Rengei, Jackline Ripoo, Nancy Chombir and Josephin Chepurum are said to be alligned to the area governor Prof. Lonyangapuo.

Lonyangapuo has in the recent past been at crossroads with the party leadership. He is seen to be leaning towards Deputy President William Ruto.

Women leaders from the region have accused the party of high handedness. They have threatened to ditch the party and have called on the party to reinstate the expelled members.

The expulsion of the four is expected to raise the political temperatures in the county. Prof. Lonyangapuo is yet to react to the ouster.
