Journalists Thrown Out Of Senate During Matiangi's Grilling

    Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang'i
Journalists covering Senate grilling of Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang'i over the arrest of three senators have been ordered out of the senate buildings.

The CS in the company of police IG Mutyambai arrived at around 10am and journalists who had already set camp to cover the grilling ordered out by Garissa senator Yusuf Haji who doubles up as the chairman of the National Security Committee.

The CS and IG had been summoned to appear before the senate on Monday but they didn't show up with CS Matiang'i citing that he was on leave.

Senators Cleophas Malala of Kakamega, Steve Lelegwe of Samburu and Christopher Lang'at of Bomet were dramatically arrested from their Nairobi homes early Monday morning just hours before the voting of the contentious revenue allocation bill.

After the arrest of the three, senators who were set to vote on the revenue sharing formula deviated on the business of the day and started calling for the release of their three colleagues.
Senate speaker Ken Lusaka supported the senators and said they have to stay together when one of them is harassed. It is at this point that he ordered for the summon of the country's top security bosses to shed more light on the developments.
