In a video that has since gone viral, the two leaders exchanged sharp accusations, with Governor Sang calling Senator Cherargei a “well-known extortionist.” Senator Cherargei fired back, accusing the governor of misappropriating Nandi County resources.
The confrontation escalated despite the committee chair urging Governor Sang to withdraw his statements. It took the intervention of Garissa Senator Hajji to calm tensions, asking both leaders to retract their remarks so they could be expunged from the official committee records.
Following the meeting, Senator Cherargei took to his Facebook page to provide details. He said Governor Sang had been summoned to explain the utilization of funds from the Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) Programme, amounting to Ksh 308,450,834 in Nandi County, funds that he alleges were misappropriated.
