Nandi; Hundreds show up for Djhot Jantex funds drive in Nandi Hills


Hundreds of supporters and well wishers showed up for a fundraiser held in support of Janeth Jerop Popularly known as Dj hot Jantex in the interwebs.

Janeth has been battling a condition (Venus malformation) on her right leg and had previously undergone a surgery at Mp Shah hospital to rectify it. However the condition was not fully cured and has to undergo another surgery to rectify it. The whole process is an expensive affair. Initially, she spent over 3 million and is currently in need of over 2.5 million for the next surgery.

The funds drive was conducted by media personality Isaiah Cheruiyot Popularly known as Gwiji Isaiah of media Max assisted by Mc Masir, Mc Ingo Ingo, musicians Stano Sigindet and Mwalimu Kendagor.

Long distance runner Amos Kipruto was also present representing Landson Foundation which was founded by Australian based Kenyan Alfred Koech Sergent who also provided live coverage on his Facebook page.

Also present were politicians including the local MCA Edwin Kemboi, politician Robert Chepkwony aka 5050, Tinderet Mp Julius Melly was also represented. Nandi Governor Stephen Sang was represented by the area MCA and made a generous contribution for the cause he also made an assurance that he would stand with Janeth throughout her treatment journey. Others present included online star Arap Uria, one team career coaches CEO Innocent Paluget, MyTravel international CEO Nick Salat, Mos villa restaurant CEO Princes Naomie among others.

The well attended drive managed to raise over 600,000 to support the cause for Janeth's treatment. 

Notable events

Princess Naomie of Mos Villa restaurant brought 20ltrs of Mursik that was auctioned and made about 35,000 shillings. At some point there was a bidding war for 5 litres of the milk that was between Mwalimu Kendagor and MC Ingo Ingo. The two were on each other's necks. MC Ingo won the bid and bought the milk (5 litres) at Ksh. 20,000/=. Mwalimu Kendagor lost the bid at Ksh. 18,000/= 

Online viewership

By the end of the live broadcast over 50,000 people had followed the event online. This showcases the importance of social media as a new form of media and dissemination of information.

Djhot Jantex is expected to undergo the surgery in a few day's time at a hospital in Eldoret.
