Alfred Koech Eyes Nandi Senate Seat, Promises Youth Empowerment and Oversight

Australian based businessman Alfred Koech, popularly known as Alfred Koech Sergent, has declared his intention to contest for the Nandi Senate seat in the 2027 General Elections.
Alfred Koech Sergent. He has declared his 2027 Nandi Senatorial bid.

Speaking to Nandi News in a phone interview, Koech said his decision to join the race was driven by his desire to strengthen oversight and ensure better representation for the people of Nandi County.

“I feel that the people of Nandi have not been well represented by the leaders they elected. The current leadership in both the County Assembly and the Senate has failed in their oversight roles,” he said.

He added that one of his key priorities would be to push for the completion of stalled government projects across the county.

“It is unfortunate that years later, several government projects remain incomplete. My focus will be to ensure that such projects are completed and serve the people as intended,” he stated.

Focus on Youth, Talent and Education

Koech, who is also the founder of Landson Foundation, said he intends to use his international networks to open opportunities for young people, especially athletes, to access education and professional development abroad.

The Landson Foundation is a community-based organization that supports talented but financially disadvantaged athletes to pursue education and career opportunities.

The foundation has already established a training camp in Mutwot, Nandi County, with a bed capacity of 25 athletes. Plans are also underway to set up an ICT center and a conference facility at the camp.

“We set up this camp to reduce the cost of paying for external training facilities for our athletes. Once fully operational, the camp will allow us to accommodate and support more athletes,” said Koech.

He emphasized that talent development and education would be central pillars of his leadership agenda.

“I will use my international connections to ensure that talented young athletes from Nandi who lack financial support are linked to sponsors and educational opportunities globally,” he added.

Background and Leadership Profile

Koech is a graduate of Edith Cowan University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Community Development.

He hails from Mosoriot in Nandi County and has built a strong social media presence, using his platforms to highlight community issues and support vulnerable individuals.

His growing influence, both locally and internationally, has elevated his profile as a youth advocate and community leader.

2027 Senate Race Takes Shape

Koech will be seeking to unseat the incumbent Nandi Senator, Samson Cherargei, who is expected to defend his seat in the 2027 General Elections.

His entry into the race is likely to intensify competition as new candidates position themselves ahead of the polls.
