Power of Social Media: Arap Uria Raises Funds for Needy Kaiboi Student in Nandi

In yet another heartwarming act of kindness, Facebook comedian Arap Uria has once again rallied his fans to bring hope to someone in need. This time, the spotlight fell on Timon Ruto, a second-year Mechanical Engineering student at Kaiboi Technical Training Institute in Nandi.

Ruto, a resident of Burnt Forest, was thrust into the limelight after his landlord raised concern over his withdrawn and lonely lifestyle. It soon emerged that the young man had been surviving on nothing more than sugarcane and roasted maize, locking himself inside an almost empty room after losing his few belongings to theft.

On Saturday, Arap Uria and his team paid him a surprise visit and confirmed the dire situation. The discovery revealed not just poverty but also a young man silently battling depression. Moved by his condition, Uria and his online supporters quickly mobilized help, raising Ksh. 54,000 through social media campaigns.

With the funds, the team bought Ruto a bed and mattress, clothing, food supplies, and other essentials. Part of the contribution also went into settling his school fees balance, giving him a fresh chance to focus on his studies. The student, visibly relieved, expressed joy and gratitude at the overwhelming support.

This is not the first time Arap Uria has used his platform for good. Just recently, the comedian led two successful online fundraisers for fellow creators Rosaline Tapnyolei, who is battling a severe eye condition, and gospel group Naswa Melodies, raising a combined Ksh. 2 million in less than 24 hours.

The latest show of solidarity proves once again the power of digital influence. Social media celebrities like Uria are redefining what it means to be famous by using their platforms not just for entertainment but also as tools of transformation.

In a society where many young people are struggling with unemployment, depression, and poverty, such interventions stand out as a beacon of hope. For Ruto, it is more than just a bed or food, it is a reminder that humanity still exists, and help can come from unexpected corners.

As the story of Arap Uria and his team continues to unfold, one thing is clear: their fan base is not just about laughter and memes, it is about turning clicks into compassion, and followers into lifesavers.
