| Governor Sang awards a new mother with a certificate for successfully delivering at the Kapsabet Referral hospital (photo/ Stephen Sang Facebook)
A photo of governor Stephen Sang of Nandi issuing a congratulatory certificate to a new mother has resurfaced. In the photo, an elated Sang is seen posing for a photo with a mother at the Kapsabet Referral Hospital Maternity wing, issuing her with a certificate which has a photo of the governor and his deputy, with a congratulatory message. In a post on 20th December 2018, governor Sang posted the message on his Facebook page that he visited the referral hospital where he extended festive season wishes to patients and congratulated mothers for their new born babies. |
Recently, the photo has raised some issues among residents of Nandi and the entire nation at large after it resurfaced online. It was posted by an internet user on Facebook.
The user identified as Tirop IK sarcastically questioned why it was necessary for the governor to issue such a certificate (push gifts) to the new mothers.
The matter quickly raised a hot debate with most of the commentators questioning the logic behind it.
Chumbaa Janeth: Watu wa nandi haki you have really suffered, naimagine ni mm nko maternity alaf napewa hii cert .cheeeeei!
Elijah Mutai: Nandi County should be divided into three and donated to Kericho Uasin Gishu and Bungoma counties. We are tired of explaining to Kenyans that the Cowndy is not part of Uasin Gishu
Arap Matelong: Oh my. Complete with a picture on the certificate!
The matter was also shared by Australian based political aspirant, popularly known by his Facebook name Alfred Koech-Sergent.
NANDI POLITICS
Sang has recently been at the receiving end from his competitors over what has been termed as incompetence and failure to deliver on his election pledges. Sang who rode on the youthful wave that swept Nandi County in 2017, rose on the promise that he would transform the lives of the locals by leading from the front hence his slogan 'Tuga Tai" which translates to 'leading from the front'.

Sang has however maintained that his administration has been steadfast on delivery of services. He is boasting of his administrations investment in the health sector, in which his government has launched and commissioned various health facilities within the county.
He also boasts of his investment in the agricultural sector through his flagship project of the Nandi Cooperative Creameries (NCC) located in Kabiyet, being overseen by his Agriculture CEC Dr. Kiplimo Lagat, who is an agricultural expert.
2022 CAMPAIGNS
The 2022 gubernatorial contest in Nandi is expected to be competitive. Already, a number of aspirants have declared interest in the seat. Sang who will be defending his seat is expected to put up a bruising campaign to defend his seat. He is expected to commission the several projects which are currently ongoing nearing completion.
This is however not deterring his competitors who are also working round the clock to dethrone him. Top on the list is Nairobi based Lawyer Allan Kosgey, son to former Industrialization Minister, Dr. Henry Kosgey.
Kosgey has already made inroads into the Nandi political space. Through various grassroots activities, the lawyer has worked hard to endear himself to the voters. Known for his philanthropic ways, the lawyer has not taken any chances in his quest for the seat.
Others in the race include former governor Dr. Cleophas Lagat, Antipas Tirop and some who have not clearly stated their intentions.
All in all, the 2022 race in Nandi is expected to be an interesting one.
