Kenya's youngest MCA Cynthia Jepchumba Muge has voiced her concerns over the increased teenage pregnancies in Nandi county. The young legislator was in particular concerned over the report that approximately 10,000 school going children have been impregnated.

According to a statement posted on her social media account, the Kilibwoni MCA stated that the news was quite shocking and sickening. she said the 10,000 pregnancies in a span of 12 months translated to over 800 per month and about 30 pregnancies per day.
"Our attention has been drawn to the media reports of over 10,000 school going girls in Nandi county who fell pregnant in the last 12 months. This translates to over 800 girls per month and about 30 per day." read part of her statement.
Last year, similar sentiments were raised by the deputy governor Nandi County Dr. Yulita Mitei. She had foreseen a crisis of immense proportions in the county. She had stated that the figures recorded were that of births in hospitals and that the numbers could have been even higher than estimated.
SOLUTIONS
The MCA has called on relevant authorities to act speedily as the situation in Nandi is dire. "The situation in Nandi is worse compared to the average nationwide. Unintended pregnancies among adolescent girls are dangerous," She stated.

She blamed married men for being the greatest perpetrators of the vice. "Studies have shown that married men are responsible for 50% of these pregnancies." She said.
She has called on a countrywide discussion about the crisis.
