Celestine Jepkazi had no hopes of joining her undergraduate studies at the Meru University.
Coming fom a poor background, she saw no hope in joining the university despite her exceptional perfomance in her secondary school education. She sat her KCSE last year and managed a B+ of 73 points.
To get her fees, she opted for brick making, an enterprise that for a long time has been a preserve for the men due its labour intensive requirements. This she says helped her family get the basics in life.
"I did this so as to fend for my family." She told a journalist.
However, due to the heavy rainfall being experienced in parts of the country, her enterprise could not be sustained. She said that the rains ruined her bricks.
In a day, the young ambitious lady who worked with her mother, Hellen Jepkosgei could make upto 2000 bricks, which they sold in their locality.

"I was touched by the story of Celestine Jepkazi of Kabisaga ward, Mosop Subcounty whose determination to join university saw her engage in brick making to raise University fees." Said Sang.
The governor met the girl together with her mother at his Kapsabet offices. Mrs. Ann Birgen, Jepkazi's former teacher at Cheptil was also present in the meeting.
Sang offered to pay for her university education fully as she seeks to become a nurse.
"I will be paying for her school fees as she joins Meru Universoty for a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing." Sang added.
Mr. Sang is said to be sponsoring quite a number of students in various institutions of higher learning in the country. Celestine Jepkazi is lucky to be among them.
