Nandi: Allan could floor Sang, latest polls indicate

Sang vs Allan

In an online poll conducted by Nandi News and which attracted 1300 respondents, Sang could narrowly lose to Allan Kosgey.

The poll which ran for a week from August 12, asked respondents to chose between Stephen Sang and Allan Kosgey.

Here is a screen grab of the poll question.

In total, about 1300 respondents were polled out of which, 626 (48%) picked Sang, while 677 (52%) chose Allan.

Sang

Governor Stephen Sang, a lawyer, rose to the political limelight in a short span. In 2013, he fought it out with Henry Kosgey, a seasoned politician and floored him for the Senatorial seat.

In 2017, he shifted his political interests and had a stab at the gubernatorial election. He went head to head with the incumbent at the time Cleophas Lagat, Henry Kosgey, Felix Koskei among other contenders. He floored them becoming one of the youngest governor in the country.

He rode on the Jubilee wave that swept across the country which was in a way favorable to young "digital" leadership.

Three years down the line, the young governor's administration has gone through a lot of challenges. Allegations of corruption, nepotism and incompetence have rocked his government.

There were allegations that some of his officers were involved in theft of building materials meant for early childhood centres in the county.

Delayed salaries, non payment to contractors are also some of the allegations that have rocked governor Sang's administration. All these have worked against him.

Kosgey

Though relatively new to the political sphere in Nandi, the young Kosgey has been making inroads.

He first came into the political limelight when he vied for the Kesses Member of Parliament seat back in 2017. He lost to the incumbent Hon. Swarup Mishra.

Soon enough, he shifted his base to Nandi and has never looked back. A philanthropist, the politician has made a tremendous impact on the locals.

He is always seen engaged in local gatherings, holding harambees to offset hospital bills, payment of school fees, youth activities among other issues.

Though he hasn't yet declared whether he will be vying, political observers have noted that he might be eyeing Sang's seat.

It still remains to be seen whether he will actually run.

Other Contestants

A number of names have been floated as possible contenders for the Nandi gubernatorial seat. Among them is long time civil servant Kiplimo Rugut, Antipas Tirop and former MP Elijah Lagat. Others include current Tinderet MP Hon. Melly.

The contest for governor's office is expected to attract a number of seasoned politicians.

It is therefore important to note that the poll might not be the actual representation of facts as there are other contenders that were not captured.

NB: The opinion poll does not in any way reflect on the position of Nandi News
