Governor Sang slapped with additional charge of assault in the Kibwari estate incitement case

Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has been charged afresh at the Kisumu Law Courts with additional charge of assault in Kibware estate incitement case of 2019.

The Kisumu court prosecutor who had applied to review the governor's charge sheet on Monday told the court that the locals who stormed the farm assaulted and caused injury to a farm manager, one Mr Jonah Kemboi.

Governor Sang pleaded not guilty to all the three charges read to him before Kisumu senior magistrate Berly Omolo.

In a video that went viral in June 2019, the governor was captured on camera armed with a power saw cutting down tea bushes valued at Kshs 2 Million in the land which is said to have been grabbed, where he was also seen roughing up a man inside the tea plantation.

The governor said he was acting on complaints from members of the public that the four acres of land that should have been used for public utilities had been grabbed.

The governor was freed on Kshs 500,000 cash bail and the case will be mentioned on March 11.
