19 year old student commits suicide inside a police cell in Nandi

 



A 19 year old student committed suicide on Tuesday while in police custody at Kilibwoni police post in Nandi County.

According to the police report, the 19 year old identified as Meshark Kiprop, was a student at Ndubeneti Secondary School. It said that the student made a rope using a piece of cloth and used it to hang himself from the window of his cell.

He had been arrested after a domestic dispute in which he threatened to kill one of his family members forcing the kin to report the matter to the police.

Nandi County deputy police commander David Kirui said that officers on duty heard screams emanating from the cell and on opening it they found his lifeless body hanging from the cell window.

The body of the teen was transferred to Kapsabet County Referral hospital mortuary where a post mortem is expected to be conducted. investigations have been launched to establish why the teen took his own life.
